My 10 Year Battle With Sleep!
For over 10 years I battled extreme sleep issues. It all started in 2000 after I experienced a major trauma in my life and I spiraled into a deep depression and began experiencing extreme insomnia issues.
I did what I only knew to do at the time, I sought out help from a medical professional.
This doctor began medicating me and one of those medications was a pretty powerful sleeping pill!
As with any trauma in life, wounds take time to heal! Unfortunately my doctor at the time felt it best to keep me on sleeping medicine and I quickly became dependent on them!
Why Sleeping Pills Are Not The Answer
Sleeping pills are not the answer! Let me explain why this is true!
After reading this amazing book by Emily Benfit: The Sleep Solution I quickly learned that sleep is BIG Business! I mean BIG here folks, how about $4.5 billion a year!
Yep, that is what pharmaceutical companies are making and they are in the business of convincing you that you need their drug! They are in the business to make money, not to treat your insomnia!
Even worst, you can quickly become dependent on sleeping pills, just like I did!
As Benfit explains in her book:
“Patients don’t usually have any idea that the sleeping pills are actually worsening their sleep quality. They lessen the amount of deep delta sleep and REM, while increasing Stage 2 sleep, so even if you’re falling asleep faster, you’re sleeping much lighter and not getting enough of the deep sleep you need.”
Sleeping pills actually make your sleep issues worse! They are not the answer!
And so I dove deeper into this book and this is how learned how to end my insomnia naturally!
