21 Day Meditation For Weight Loss Challenge
Hey everyone! I am going to dive right into today’s subject, weight loss.
I got an email the other day from one of my all time favorite authors, Jon Gabriel. Jon wrote an amazing book, ground breaking if you ask me, The Gabriel Method.
The Gabriel Method is not your typical weight loss book. It really puts a focus on meditation and why weight loss approaches today fail time after time again.
The Gabriel Method takes a cutting edge approach that includes meditation. You can watch this brief video about The Gabriel Method here.
Does Meditation Work?
So I know many of you might be skeptical about meditation. I was when I first started meditating. So I thought I would share this email that I got from Jon the other day.
Jon got an email from a reader that asked this the other day, and she said: “But meditation doesn’t even burn calories so how can it help with weight loss?”
It’s a valid question, and 10 years ago when Jon weighed over 400lbs (he now weighs 180 pounds), he had the exact same doubts. He was convinced that losing weight was all about the calorie battle: starvation, restriction, and exercise.
Why The Calorie-Focused Approach Doesn’t Work For Weight Loss
What he now knows today is that a calorie-focused approach to weight loss is always short term as it’s your body that’s ultimately in control. If your body wants to burn an extra 500 calories today, it can do it so easily. If your body wants to store fat, it’ll make you tired and lethargic—and again, it’ll happen whether you like it or not.
That’s why diets don’t work long-term.
You’re fighting your own biology which is an impossible battle to win. The smart approach is to instead work with your body and address your weight problem on a hormonal level.
It’s your hormones that are in control of your body’s desires to gain or burn fat, and your hormones are affected by the foods you eat; but also by stress, emotions, your lifestyle, and many other non-food factors.
How Does Meditation Help?
At least 80% of Jons readers are suffering from severe mental and emotional stresses. It might be a high-pressure job, an abusive spouse, or a dying relative. Whatever it is in your life, severe stress creates hormonal imbalances that lead to overeating and weight gain.
But the good news is that meditation can help you manage that stress—and with guided meditation, you don’t need to be a monk or do any formal training.
Your just press “play” and listen.
