How To Make An Image Background Transparent Without Using Photoshop!

Oh Those Dreaded Backgrounds

 

Have you ever fell in love with an image that you would like to use on your website, but couldn’t figure out how to make it work with the background?

I have purchased photos before, used buttons or other promotional images only to find that they often have a white background.

When you have a website that does not have a white background, this presents a challenge.  Do you add a border to the image, crop out what you can of the background or just figure out a way to make the background transparent.

So I set out to find a way to make a background transparent and let me tell you, if you don’t have photoshop…you are pretty much out of luck…or so I thought!

I knew there had to be a way to make a background transparent and this my friends is how I discovered a simple way to make your images pop off of the page!

Check out the image at the top of this post.  Does it pop out at you?  Not just the “sale” image but the olive image with the jagged edge, almost has a 3-D effect doesn’t it??  I made the background transparent on the “sale” image as well as the olive picture as a whole.

Do you see how removing the backgrounds can totally help make the images pop and also helps the viewer to take notice of the images you are trying to get them to notice??

I Do Not Have Photoshop

 

So I do not have photoshop.  Why, well for several reasons.  One it is too expensive.  I do not have $1,000 to buy the program.

I know, I can buy a subscription now by the month, but I would have to take a class, well lets be honest here, you can take an entire college course and still not know everything there is to know with photoshop. Plain and simple, I do not have the time to learn photoshop right now.

So I decided to do some research to find an answer to my problem with the equipment I had on hand. There just had to be an answer to my problem and good news…there is…

But I Do Have A Mac

 

What I do have is a Mac, or an apple computer, Macintosh, or whatever you want to call it! 🙂  And let me tell you, Macs are so user friendly when it comes to images or anything to do with photos.

I started my search in the Apple support forum and worked my way to google and still couldn’t quite find the answer I was looking for.

Then I just accidentally stumbled on the solution just by trial and error.  You can imagine how excited I was when I learned how easy it was to do!

So again, this is for Mac users and you do it in the preview window.  I did a quick video to show you how. I am such a visual person so I knew it was time to whip out the video because that’s just how I roll! 🙂
