Our Jungle & Underwater Adventure In Belize (Part 2)

Yesterday I shared with you Part 1 of our  jungle and underwater adventure in Belize and today I want to share with you part 2.  After our grueling and amazing hike through the jungle, we thought we would relax a bit and decided to go on our very first dive!  My husband and I had never been scuba diving before so we had to take a course at our resort (Hamanasi) before we could dive.  This course instructed us how to use the equipment and then we went to the pool so that we could practice the techniques.  Getting certified is quite the process and requires a lot of pool and dive time, so this is the starting point to getting certified.  Note, you do not have to be certified to go on these dives.  We needed an instructor with us at all time when diving, but that was just fine with me.  We wanted to make sure that diving was something we enjoyed before we spent the money on the certification process.  Guess what, we LOVED it so we will now do our course and pool work here in Milwaukee and then do our dive work on our next trip.

We did not know it at the time, but Belize is host to some of the finest diving in the world!  Several of the dive sites we went to are consider to be within the top 5 dive spots in the world.  What a treat, let me tell you.  In the picture below you will see a dive site that we went to called the deep blue hole.  This spot was amazing.  It goes down over 400 feet and has a wall of coral reef that just keeps going down.  It is a whole different world down there.  I think two of the most exciting moments for me was swimming with sea turtles (pictured above) and unexpectedly swimming 12 feet away from a blacktip shark.  I nearly spit my oxogen out because I gasped when I saw the shark.  If I am being honest, that was a little to close for comfort for me but my husband loved it!

Here is a video if you have some time that showcases our dive site.  Here you will see eagle ray and southern stingrays, green and spotted moray eels, hawksbill turtles and barracudas!

So now onto the next adventure.  Let me tell you, this trip was filled with firsts for both me and my husband.  First jungle hike, first cave adventure, first time scuba diving so why not tackle our first time zip lining!

Now I probably wouldn’t have chose this activity if David (my husband) didn’t want to go so badly.  So we took a trip to the jungle once again to experience zip lining through the jungle.  This wasn’t just 1 zip line course but we zip lined off of 8 different platforms and one of them was close to a mile long!  So here I am making my way through the jungle on a zip line.  Oh and by the way, I think this is enough zip lining to last me a life time, it was a bit scary for me!

Tomorrow I will share Part 3 of this adventure where I will showcase our trip to the caves and the Mayan ruins so stay tuned for that!
