My Dark Closet Secret!
Every single morning and I mean Every.Single.Morning, I’d head to my closet to grab something black!
Why? Because I’ve been told time and time again, that black makes you look thinner, that black is flattering and that you could never go wrong with black.
For years (I’m talking almost my whole adult life)…I would put on that black like a loyal soldier and marched on through my day.
But something was missing…something huge! When I asked this one question, EVERYTHING changed!
How Does Black Make You Feel?
When I asked myself this, everything changed for me! Go ahead, I want you to ask yourself this question:
How does black make you feel?
For me, black left me feeling:
- Weighted down — like I was hiding something or hiding “from” something.
- I didn’t feel slimmer, I felt that I was just hiding my curves and not celebrating the true woman that I am.
- I always described myself as “a boring dresser” to my friends and I am the furthest from a boring person!
- I didn’t feel upbeat (I have a total upbeat and playful personality) and felt no excitement when putting on black.
- Black left me frustrated — like a caged animal waiting to play again in the wild. Yay, that describes it perfectly.
Bottom line — BLACK DID NOT BRING ME JOY!
Your Clothes Need to Match Your Personality!
On a rare occasion, I would bravely bring out a color and when I did, I went BIG! Colors like a fun orange, or a bright pink, and even a light periwinkle or a super cool sunshine yellow (yes yellow)!
Almost always anyone who I came into contact with that day would say, Wow….you look amazing in that color! How fun!
Notice the words I used to describe the “colors” I put on: Bright, fun, super cool, sunshine and light!
Well, guess what? My mood lightened up and I felt bright, bold and fun and it naturally brought an exuberant energy to my life!
Shopping Was FINALLY Fun!
When I finally made the decision to totally ditch the black, it felt so freeing.
I went out the next day — oh who am I kidding, I headed out to the store as soon as I made up my mind — and I shopped for clothes that brought me joy!
You know what guys? It was incredible. It was like things were jumping off the racks and shopping was joyful and no longer a burden (I use to HATE shopping)!
I enjoyed the whole process, in fact I celebrated it! And I am pleased to report that not 1 item in my cart had even a hint of black in it. NOT ONE!
Walking Away From Black Was Life Changing!
You see…walking away from black was life changing for me! Freeing — like a bird flying out of a nest for the first time to explore everything this beautiful world has to offer!
Who knew that color could so dramatically affect your mood and outlook! It can! Try it. I am dressing without black for a 30-day no black challenge. Would love for you to join me if you feel inclined to do so.

An outstanding share! I’ve just forwarded this onto
a coworker who has been conducting a little homework on this.
And he in fact ordered me lunch because I found it for him…
lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thank YOU for the meal!!
But yeah, thanks for spending some time to discuss this issue here on your web
site.
