When S**T Happens!
Oh my goodness you guys….so if you have followed my posts here on Whole Lifestyle Nutrition, you might have read this: Our New Home ~ Come On In For A Tour!
We recently moved to Florida and did some minor renovations and I share that with you in the post linked above. We did painting, and a LOT of wiring for modern day electronics (yay, I am a super tech nerd)!
I thought we were done, could enjoy our new home…but then a leak behind the dishwasher happened and as the saying goes, S**T HAPPENS!
What a mess y’all! This small hose behind the dishwasher sprung a leak and leaked silently through the cabinets and floors.
My Hardwood Floors Today
One day we noticed that our hardwood floors were buckling and upon a closer evaluation, we noticed that the floors were wet! Here is what they look like now.
My floors run throughout the house so we are replacing ALL of our floors. What a hot mess!
Making Sure There is No Mold
So as I mentioned, the water soaked up into our cabinets, and where there is water, there can be mold! To top it off, I live in the great state of hot and humid Florida, a prime place for mold to flourish!
The cabinets were never wet per se, just kind of textured, bumpy (which essentially is wet underneath, just not visible to us). They looked like this:
So we had a company come in that handles stuff like well you know…like mold (gosh I hate even saying that word)!
Our next step is to clear out the cabinets to see if there is a mold outbreak behind the cabinets. I find out later this week where we stand on the mold issue. Fingers crossed!!
Picking Out New Cabinets
So as you can clearly see, A major renovation is about to begin…and I thought I would share with you all this process.
We have picked out cabinets to match our house. Although I like my current kitchen, it just didn’t match the style of the home.
Picking out cabinets were much more challenging than I ever thought. My husband and I could not agree. He was leaning more towards a more traditional look and I was wanting a more modern look to match the house.
Here is the shaker style that we chose (this is in the showroom and NOT in our kitchen)!
We have clean lines in this house and went with a more shaker style cabinet (a cleaner look for sure)! They are darker (white is SOOOO hard to keep clean with kids)…and if you haven’t figured me out yet, my house has to be functioning for my family and for simplicity!
I want to live in this house without worrying if the kids are dripping from the pool onto the hardwoods or smearing their little hands on the white cabinets…are ya with me here?? It has to be a functioning house!
Oh How I Dislike Hardwood Floors!
You guys, I HATE Hardwood Floors!!! Let me rephrase…I hate the maintenance of hardwood floors! They are SO high maintenance here in Florida with the high humidity and they just don’t make sense for a home that has 3 kids, a dog and a pool!
We have chosen a tile that is meant to look like hardwood. It is kind of a trendy new look, but won’t go out of style either. It is lighter (shows less dirt) and way more durable than hardwood.
We are also adding carpet to the bedrooms. Although hardwoods look so nice throughout…there is something about stepping out of bed on a soft and comforting floor! Carpet does that for us. I mean ❤ melt at my dog, right? She LOVES carpet!
Come Along For The Ride…
Wait until you see what we have picked out! We have granite to pick out, a backsplash for the kitchen and maybe…just maybe a new gas range (EEK…depending on the budget of course)!
I am so excited. I can not wait to see how it all comes together! Yes this is a pain, but if you want to look at it another way…our house will be 100% customizable to our likings!
I am brightening the floors up, lightening up this house (oddly, the natural light is somewhat lacking) and adding a modern flare, or as I’d like to say…adding the Halle touch!
So stay tuned….and wish me luck! 😉 ~ Halle

Well, you can’t be ready for everything. I had a pretty similar situation, but since I had to do renovation in my kitchen, I wasn’t really upset about that. I decided to do renovations in my bathroom as well because I wanted to get new Bathroom Vanities Philadelphia , and I can tell you that without a water leak, I’d never decide to do something like that.
