Lots of people are aghast when I tell them when I don’t get a flu shot. It’s not because I don’t care about my health or that of my girls—it’s because I do care!
In most places, flu vaccinations are not mandatory. Thank goodness! But that doesn’t mean that you might not be pressured if you’re on the fence about the flu shot.
Here are a few things you can tell your doctor (or your nosy neighbor) when you’re asked why you’re not getting a flu shot this year.
What To Say To Your Doctor When They Pressure You To Get A Flu Shot
1. “I’m not in a high priority group for the vaccine.”
One little-known part about the flu shot is that there are higher priority groups that it’s intended for. Did you know that?
Here are just some of the types of people recommended to get the flu shot more than normal folks:
- Children from ages 6 months to 4 years old
- People 50 years old and over
- People on immunosuppressant drugs
- People who work in health care
If you’re not in one of these groups, say so and hop off the doctor’s table!
2. “I’m already working to guard myself against the flu.”
My family takes steps to guard against getting sick all year round. Being well isn’t just something we strive for—it’s a lifestyle!
If you’re worried about coming down with the flu, you can eat immunity boosting foods all year round. Staying hydrated also helps build a natural immunity among other benefits.
Which reminds me…
3. “I want a solution that lasts beyond just one year!”
The flu virus changes and shifts every year. This makes flu vaccines ineffective year after year because they’re fighting something that changes shape.
That’s just how a disease works. We figure out a way to fight something, and it gets stronger right back!
Working on your personal immunity is an investment in your health. Even if you catch a few sniffles, you can still treat yourself while boosting your overall health more than you could with a shot!
4. “I don’t know if it will be effective now.”
Did you know it’s possible to get the flu shot too early in the year? The complications just keep coming!
But it’s true: Lots of drug stores start telling us to get the flu shot practically the second school starts. There’s really no need to do it then.
The best bet for a flu shot being effective is if you have it after Halloween but before Thanksgiving. Even then, it’s still a short-term solution.
5. “If I get the flu, I’ll be okay.”
If you do indeed get the flu, you can get rid of the flu 3 times faster with THIS syrup.
I write about black elderberry syrup in great length in my new book Natural Solutions for Cleaning & Wellness, and I can confirm after much research and testing that it really does work!
If you’re in a health group that may truly suffer health consequences from getting the flu, talk to your healthcare provider about your options. We all get sick sometimes. Just do what you can!
Are you getting a flu shot this year? Why or why not? Tell me all about it in the comments!
Every single person I know that has had the flu jab has developed some long-term respiratory complaint – asthma, unexplained cough, hayfever – to name a few.
yes, i was very reluctant to letting my son get the flu shot, and of course i was pushed and nearly threatned to. Now my daughter has an appointment and i would like to write out a letter and i’m asking for some advice!
It goes both ways. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and beliefs. Personally I don’t like either side claiming their own evidence as FACT!. It’s up to each individual on how they choose to live their own lifes, aswell as if a parent chooses to Vaccinate or not Vaccinate their child? Well that is the parents right to choose, until the child is old enough to make those decisions. For me I do not believe in getting the flu shot, as I do not trust Governments and I don’t believe in putting unknowns inside my body. By no means will I ever disrespect anybody who feels it’s the right choice for them, each to their own. The main issue I have is terms such as ‘Compulsary’ ‘Mandatory’ Flu Shots, I find forcing anybody to get a flu shot on the basis of maintaining their emloyment is abhorrent and a violation of ones liberties. Anyway just remember to respect one another and keep safe during this time. We all have different views/opinions, but without showing kindness to each other things could be alot worse.
Peter Franks says
I and my mother used to get badly pressured to take the jab. Even when I took my elderly mother for her annual check the practice. Usually they will not entertain the carer, or will only address one complaint. I am registered at the same practice alas, pressured us. She would said know twice but the nurse decided she knew better. I had gone purley to translate and she insisted to jab both of us. Last year I was incensed that I am a vegetarian and they came out with the we have a vegetraian jab. So this year I decided to use the line my Muslim neighbourgh said that it is aginst my religion. I thought lets see how this plays out and I said it is against my religion. The nurse still persisted unitl I said under Islamic law I am not permited and that halted any further conversation or pressuring. I always use that line. It doesnt seem to work that well if you say you are Hindu or Sikh but if you say you are Jewish or Muslim your on a winner.
I’m due to have one this morning and I do t fall into the critorier or high priority list which has confused me tbh. Okay I live with my mum and sister who has health problems but I lived now for years so why now is my doctor forcing me to have it?
Many years when I did ask I was told no for I was not eligible for it and if I wanted it I would have to pay they did a check on me and my health issues and said no I did not need one
So I’m Confused to what is going on here
I read lots of article and forums and Facebook and I’m literally frightened to have it I’m not sure if people are scaremonging or have had these side effects, all in fairness not everyone is the same and might not have same side effects
I’m torn for I live with my 78 mum and 60 sister and by got heart problems but they have the flu jab every year so I’m like do I really need it if there getting it themselves?
I don’t know what to do I have got 1 and half hours to decide
I feel confused and frightened
