Today I would like to share with you my personal journey in finding balance, health and happiness. For many years I struggled and had many issues that had to be conquered so that I could find balance, health and happiness in my life. Let me explain.
Finding Balance
I grew up in a very small town with traditional values. My mom grew a garden for us and made almost everything from scratch using wholesome ingredients. We always sat down for dinner and enjoyed a well balanced meal. It wasn’t until I left home for college that my eating habits started to shift. Finding my independence and being young at the time led me down a road where poor health decisions were made. At the time I was young and healthy and my body could absorb these mistakes that I was making with my health. But as time went on, I started to have some health issues and although I did not know it at the time, my body started to show me signs that I was quickly becoming unhealthy!
Here were some signs that my health was deteriorating.
- I began having issues with sleeping
- For the first time, I began to gain weight
- My anxiety was very high
- I always felt a wired feeling and had a very hard time winding down and relaxing
- I suffered from eczema and it was progressively getting worse
- I had low energy
- I had a hard time concentrating and would quickly lose my train of thought
- I was always hungry and constantly was craving sweets and starchy carbs, breads and pastas
- I began having really bad mood swings
- I often felt depressed and tired
I did not know it then, but these were all signs of an unbalanced diet. It is alarming to learn that putting the wrong foods into your body can so dramatically alter your health!
Finding Health
So I went through my twenties and made it half way through my thirties before I started to regain my health. One night, I was cooking dinner for my family and was having a glass of wine. At the time I thought that the wine was helping me relax and wind down. I noticed that about 45 minutes after I had the glass of wine that I became irritable, edgy and quite moody. I started to pay close attention to this over the course of a week and noticed that it was consistent. This wasn’t just happening after a glass of wine but was also happening after eating some of my meals. So my research began and I learned that I was suffering from blood sugar issues.
I had no idea how to balance my blood sugar. So I continued to research and realized that you balance your blood sugar by eating foods that are right for your metabolic type. Metabolic type? Metabolic Typing is a very innovative science and exciting dietary technology that shows individuals their own unique diet requirements. Just like two snowflakes, no two individual are alike and each have different dietary requirements. In order to be truly healthy and fit, we all need to discover our unique biochemical or metabolic needs, and then tailor our diets in a manner that will effectively support those needs.
There’s no greater or more powerful influence on your health than the food you eat several times a day, every day of your life. By eating according to your Metabolic Type, you can make food your “medicine” and not your “poison.” While any given diet may provide the right fuel mixture for some, for others it could be quite wrong and produce the opposite effect which is to gain weight instead of losing it. That is why no one diet works for everyone. We are all uniquely different and we need to discover our own metabolic needs. Metabolic Typing does just that!
So I took a metabolic test from a licensed metabolic typing advisor and my healing began!
Here is a short video explaining metabolic typing and what it is.
So after I took my test and started eating right for my metabolic type, the first thing I noticed was that my anxiety disappeared and my energy level was outstanding! Next my weight began to come off naturally and the best thing about that was that I was never hungry and this wasn’t a diet, it was my new way of life! I began eating wholesome unprocessed foods, healthy fats and properly raised meats. My quality of life dramatically improved and I started to regain my health and come back into balance!
Finding Happiness
I couldn’t believe how amazing I felt! Wow, what a life changing moment to realize that eating the right foods in the right proportions could so dramatically change your life. Here are a few things that Metabolic Typing did for me.
- It increased my energy
- I had natural weight loss
- I have maintained an ideal weight that is right for me
- I controlled my hunger and eliminate sweet cravings
- I improved my mental clarity
- I improved my digestion
- I strengthened my Immune System
- It restored emotional balance and stabilized my moods
- It required no dieting or restricting calories
So I set out on my journey to try to help as many people as possible discover there own unique biochemical or metabolic needs and became a Certified Metabolic Typing Advisor and a Holistic Lifestyle & Nutrition Coach. Soooooooooooo VERY proud of you Halle! Good job girl. aaaaand miss y’all LOTS! 🙁
Really interesting post – it is definitely true that we are what we eat! Thank you for sharing your story so openly.
Hi Halle,
This post was very moving to me. For the past 9 years I have been on a non-stop health and healing journey (from Crohn’s, Lupus, and chronic inflammation). I found your story so inspiring. I watched that video and loved it. This sort of reminds me of Eat Right for Your Blood Type. It just makes sense that we all require unique diets, as we all have a unique bio-chemical make up. This is one area that I struggle with on the SCD (a diet for Crohn’s disease). I don’t believe that everyone will thrive on this diet, as they may be unable to digest or tolerate (or even be allergic to) some of the foods on the diet. I’m personally curious about this for myself. I would love to learn more about how to get tested and find out my Metabolic Type. I’m so curious about my needs on a cellular/metabolic level. I love that you have offered some resources for beginners. I thank you for sharing this post. I will be featuring it tonight on AFW and sharing the video via FB today. Just fantastic!!!
Be Well,
–Amber
