What Is Diatomaceous Earth?
Diatomaceous earth is a chalk-like substance that is composed of fossilized diatoms that have formed together into silica deposits. The silica deposits are grounded into a fine powder called diatomaceous earth.
There are two different grades of diatomaceous earth; food grade and pool grade.
- Food grade diatomaceous earth is safe to use for the home, yards, and animals to name a few.
- Pool grade diatomaceous earth is altered by high heat and is only safe to use in pools.

Diatomaceous Earth Should NEVER Be Ingested!
Now I know diatomaceous earth is kind of a trendy ingredient these days.
More and more people are ingesting diatomaceous earth and I’m not sure that is such a good idea.
After reading Anthony William’s book , he goes into great detail on why it isn’t a good idea to ingest diatomaceous earth. Here are a few of his thoughts on ingesting diatomaceous earth:
If you’re using diatomaceous earth products, beware. They’re really, really, really a problem with the immune system. They’re touted as being good for the immune system. They’re touted as being good for the intestinal tract. People are consuming this. Uh-uh, not a good idea at all whatsoever. I don’t care if you haven’t felt a negative impact yet, you have to be cautious.
What this does, it’s like diatomite. It’s a soft rock. It becomes like a white powder. It tenaciously binds to the inside lining of your intestinal tract and it suffocates the intestinal tract. That sounds kind of spooky, right?
What that does is it stop absorption is micronutrient trace minerals. If you continue to use these diatomaceous earth products and you internalize them, you’re taking them internally, you will become deficient in so many vitamins and minerals, everything that it says it does and do.
Not to mention, if you’re a sensitive person with colitis, Crohn’s, IBS, spastic colon, peristaltic action issues, everything, anything in the digestive arena, you don’t want to be ingesting diatomaceous earth. I’m just going to say it right here. You can read more of Anthony’s damaging health fads report here.
I personally do not feel that enough research has been done to ingest this ingredient, so for that reason, I’d recommend not ingesting it. If you are dead set on taking diatomaceous earth internally, please talk to a qualified physician about the possible side effects.

Well, I’ve known about DE for many years, now, and having read the positive comments on here, will be taking it as from today. Any problems develop, which I doubt, I will report back. This has been an. interesting read. By the way, I am just turned 87, so not much to lose, anyway.

Thankful for the original post, which showed up in a search, since it led to so many fine posts by people with actual experience.
I took DE some years back, and after telling my then partner all about it, from people with experience, he was so inspired, he bought a hundred pound bag. wish I had it now, as I would resell it–at a reasonable price. it is often quite expensive, because people know the value of it. I gave the bag to someone with a friend who had horses, when I had to make a sudden and complete downsize. The first thing anyone should know, as has been much repeated, is to be very careful not to breathe it!
( Same goes for pickling lime, which anyone interested can research as part of the “moreless drink”, a simple concoction that has wuite a few devotees, who have healed themselves of various issues assocated with lack of minerals. ) We have been essentially poisoned and demineralized over the years, and then poisoned some more with the side effects of all the medications needed for all the ailments that come form wither lack of nutrients or toxicity. DE’s main thing is silica, and silica is the necessary mateix for calcium. people take tons of calcium, too much, and also, the body will pull it out of the vones, in an effort to alkalize the body. an acidic body is pretty much a side effect of living in a time of a lot of toxicity from food, drugs, environmental poisons
and what is called stress. Food grade DE is already in grains if you buy anything bulk…. It’s pefectly safe when carefully added to a glass of water. You do need to make sure you have plenty of water. and it is wise to start with a very small amount, because there will be “die-off” if you have any imbalance or infestation, if you will pardon the word. In 2021, DE makes good sense to take, as it will attract toxins and trap them within its unique diatom structure, and carry them out of the body. Do an image search to see how amazing diatomaceous earth really is.

Totally incorrect information.
Diatomaceous earth saved my life more than once, repaired my teeth and made me look 25 when I was 40.

That doesn’t mean you won’t pay the price later on like the research and studies have shown. Good luck with that. 😉

It is not bad for you. My entire family has been taking this for years upon years and are completely healthy, never sick, and have tons of energy. If you follow the general rule of no more than 2 table spoons per day and a full glass of water. This article in regards to the danger is complete BS,

Cows and people already ingest DE in grain and for organic cows as a wormer. This warning doesn’t make sense.

I just want to point out that the person you cite for your anti DE consumption, Anthony William aka Medical Medium, is a credential-less whack job. He pushes celery juice which is toxic and most of his advice is vegan style propaganda. He has no education or credentials that make him a valid or reliable source of nutritional info. And by just perusing his site, he makes all sorts of fallacious claims and cites no sources or evidence to back them up.
I would not trust anything coming from that hack. Find more reliable info from nutrition research scientists and Doctors who specialise in nutrition. Yes, some doctors are outdated and even ignorant of good and newer information, so you may need to consume and compare multiple sources and their methods and evidence. But you do the world a disservice by promoting Anthony Williams who is even less reliable and less truthful than the authoritarian waffle hypocrite know-nothing that is Anthony Fauci.

I’m 71 years old and have taken DE for years in powder and capsule form (275mg).
I’ve never felt better, no high blood pressure, digestive problems, full head of hair with little gray, joints pain free and no cold or flu in the past 8+ years.
