One of my passions is BBQ! A great BBQ requires time and patients. This dish might take a little longer, but you are well rewarded with the most delicious barbecue. I knew it would be a challenge to create a BBQ sauce without brown sugar or a ton of regular sugar. After several attempts, I came up with a delicious healthy barbecue sauce that you can use on ribs, chicken, hamburgers, and pizzas or anything else you might like barbecue sauce on!

Description
Learn how to make the most delicious ribs you have ever tasted!
Ingredients
- 1 rack of baby back ribs
- 1 1/2 cups of favorite BBQ sauce or you can make your own (see recipe)
- dry rub (optional) (see recipe)
Instructions
- Remove membranes from ribs.
- Cut ribs into about 3 rib sections, season with a rub of choice. If using a rub, you can leave the rub on overnight in the refrigerator for better flavor and then proceed with recipe.
- Place ribs in a large 9×13″ baking dish.
- Cover with BBQ sauce (see recipe)
- Cover with foil and refrigerate several hours.
- Remove from refrigerator and cook covered ribs at 250 degrees for 3 1/2 hours. *Note* Foil is best to lock in the steam, so be sure to tightly cover the 9×13″ pan with foil.
- After cooking time is complete, remove tin foil and place on a medium-high heat grill for 5 minutes basting the whole time. Grill until crispy on top.
- If you don’t want to grill you can remove tin foil from top and broil them for 5-10 minutes for a crispy top.

I made some BBQ awhile back and froze some it; I think it is better than went it was freshly made! I have been wanting to try sweetening it with maple syrup or coconut sugar.
Halle, our family prefers Sweet & Salty Broccoli salad to coleslaw at most functions… it’s my husband’s absolute favorite! Let me know if you want to try it!
Would love the recipe Jan! I have broccoli in the fridge!
Ok–but, I don’t have any real recipe. Perhaps you can come up with measurements to share? Basically, mix raw broccoli florets (although I have blanched them on occasion, it’s not necessary) with crumbled bacon, sunflower seeds (I usually stir these in just before serving), raisins, and a bit of chopped red onion (if desired–I don’t usually use it). Then just stir in a “coleslaw-type” dressing: use your homemade mayo, add a bit of vinegar (any kind is fine, although I usually use rice or apple cider) and some organic brown sugar (or palm sugar, rapidura, etc.) You just add the dressing components until you get the right balance of sweet and sour, and it is of a slight pouring consistency. Salad is best when allowed to blend for several hours, and my husband prefers the leftovers–if there are any. 😉 Hope this makes sense!
Totally makes sense Jan! I have seen recipes like this before and they add some shredded cheddar cheese and white raisins. I am going to make it today 🙂 I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks
Did you make your salad, Halle? I made my version last night with some grilled sausages for my husband’s “homecoming” dinner… He’s been away for 2 weeks, so I knew he would appreciate his favorite salad–especially after eating out for 2 weeks straight! I also made some sauteed zucchini with cherry tomatoes, and when he saw me cooking it he said “what’s THAT?” I asked him if he’d forgotten what fresh veggies looked like? 😉
LOL Jan 🙂 I have the broccoli ready but can you believe it when I say I am out of bacon!! Going to store tomorrow 🙂
OUT of BACON?!? Say it isn’t so!!! 😉
I know Jan! I never run out of bacon, what to do 🙂
I know! I love your ribs!!!
yummy sounding.
Awesome job Halle! Especially liked the lip smack at the end while tasting your finished masterpiece. Thanks for an organic version of a great recipe. You have made my day easier!
